Four steps, with control at every stage

How to start a Chatly conversation.

Chatly connects two available participants for a live one-to-one conversation. You choose when to enable your camera, when to move on, and when to leave.

STEP 01

Confirm you are an adult

Chatly is intended for people aged 18 and over. Confirm the age statement before opening the camera and entering matching.

STEP 02

Allow your devices

Your browser asks for camera and microphone permission when you choose to start. You can keep your camera off during an active chat.

STEP 03

Meet one person

Chatly searches for another available participant. When a match is assigned, the screen shows the public display name and connection progress.

STEP 04

Talk or move on

Use video and live text chat, select Next person to find another match, or End to leave matching and the current room.

ACCOUNT

Keep in touch

Registered users can send friend requests to discoverable accounts. Accepting a request enables persistent private messaging between those accounts.

SAFETY

Report concerns

Use Report during a connected match if the other participant violates the community rules. Leave immediately if you feel uncomfortable.

What if the camera is off?

A camera can be disabled while the rest of a conversation remains active. Chatly distinguishes camera availability from the peer connection: a camera-off participant can still use live text chat. A temporary network interruption is different from an intentionally disabled camera.

What if the connection cannot recover?

Internet routes, browser permissions, device compatibility, and network restrictions can affect video. Check that your browser has camera and microphone permission, try another network if needed, and use Next person or End when you decide to leave.

Good to know

Getting started FAQs

Why does my browser ask for camera permission?

Camera and microphone access is controlled by your browser. Allow the permission when you choose to start a video conversation; you can also keep the camera disabled during the call.

Why is matching taking a while?

Chatly needs another available participant in the matching queue. Network connectivity and browser readiness can also affect how quickly a call becomes usable.

What if the other person's camera is off?

The call can remain active with live text chat available. A disabled camera is different from a lost network connection.

How do I keep in touch after the match?

Send a friend request to a discoverable registered account and wait for it to be accepted. You can then open a private conversation from the account center.

Ready to try it?

Start when you are ready. Camera permission is requested only after you choose to begin.
